Programme

The below will all be performing at LAND OF KINGS*

A Love Supreme

Arne Blackman
Multi-faceted fellow Arne Blackman is a former member of the now-disbanded Clarky Cat and was recently asked to sing vocals for Ivan Smagghe and Tim Paris’ “It’s A Fine Line” project. He also has an impressive remixography under the belt (Late of The Pier, Klaxons, Goodbooks etc) and his DJ sets weave together hot cuts of digital pop and bloggy house.

Bill Brewster (DJ History / Lowlife)
Journalist, dance music historian and stellar DJ, Bill is as happy rocking a rare funk set as he is deep dark house music. He co-runs one of the most loved parties in London – Lowlife - and will be bringing some of his registered goodtime sounds to Land of Kings.

Cheatahs DJs
Cheatahs is Little Death's guitarist Nathan Harris' new project. Lo-fi noise-pop is the order of the day for his live show, so expect a heavy dose of this alongside some skate-punk and experimental rock for his Land of Kings DJ set.

Clancy (Dancez)
East London's rising electro kid has been putting his own unique spin on tracks for Delphic, Annie and Housse De Racket of late alongside holding residencies at club nights DANCEZ! and Make It Stop, Mum.

Cocknbullkid (DJ set)
Hackney gal Anita Blay burst onto the music scene in 2009, and quickly racked up the accolades with her soulful, dance laden sounds. She'll be choosing the tracks that get her dancing and giving us a hint of what to expect on her debut album, out later this year.

Das Lion

Deep Teknologi
Deep Teknologi are SEF and T Williams. Pushing the boundaries of the Funky/post-dubstep sound, the duo recently earned Mary Anne Hobbs’ stamp of approval, completing a guest mix on BBC Radio 1 Experimental.

Detachments (live)
Funky but cold, tuneful yet dissonant, Detachments’ perverted pop marries sparse, tweaking acid house production with post-punk percussive beats. Winning the weighty seals of approval from Trevor Jackson, James Ford and Andrew Weatherall (all of whom have been on production duties for the band), this will be an essential live show for Land of Kings.

Dignan Porch (live)
Dignan Porch would have been simply known as 'Porch' had it not been for a friend's dog of the same name. The psych-pop quartet created an instant cult classic with debut album Tendrils, with its nostalgic, delicate charm.

Dollop DJs
East London party-starters Dollop have been filling dancefloors for six years but are far from London-centric. The collective have hosted nights as far afield as Shanghai, Warsaw and Berlin with banging electro and fun guaranteed.

Faze Action
Simon Lee is the original disco warrior - with his brother, Robin, they've made some of the most head-spinning music committed to vinyl. After some time in the wilderness they're back, re-energised, re-vitalised and ready to show these disco-come-latelys precisely where to step off.

Feeding Time DJs
Another gaggle of some of London's hottest promoters and Dazed & Confused staff bring their unique sounds to Land of Kings.

Firas (NME Radio/Filthy Few)
When not hosting a show on NME radio/producing for Radio 1, Firas is busy booking, promoting and DJing at his Shoreditch staple party Filthy Few. On the decks, he brings all manner of electronic action for the post-new-rave generation.

Gideon Reeling

Girlcore

Graffiti Island DJs
“Bludgeoned lo-fi” is just one of the phrases being bandied around to describe Graffiti Island. We say thrashy, frenetic garage band condensed into raucous DJ set.

Greco Roman Soundsystem
In house selectors at the very Dalston Greco Roman stable, GRSS take inspiration from the homo-erotic Olympic sport and have been known to don leotards whilst playing. They claim to “specialise in rooms of less than 30 people and 2 decks working at the same time is merely a bonus”. House, garage, ghetto, dub, rave..we could go on; heavyweight slabs of dancefloor dynamite.

Gyratory System (live)
Aptly described by the NME as 'Kraftwerk soundtracking a Looney Tunes cartoon', Gyratory System is Andrew Blick's Weird Science-y band, cutting and pasting a wide range of sounds and reassembling into a dancefloor revelation.

Hackney Colliery Band
Formed in 2008 out of a desire to play music that appealed to the feet as much as to the ears, Hackney Colliery Band is East London’s unique take on the brass band. With trumpets, trombones, saxes, sousaphone and marching percussion, the band are totally acoustic and yet able to blow the roof off any room. Mining nuggets of funk, hip-hop and hi-octane rock from the musical coalface, expect tunes by MF Doom, Blackstreet, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Minne Riperton, Notorious BIG alongside original compositions.

Jonny Rock
Jonny is the man behind the counter at London's Black Market records, a Freak with Luke Solomon and creator of a, amongst other things. His tastes are wide; running from bumping house to disco to crazy, rare turkish jams and far, far beyond. Jonny believes in peace and vinyl (two copies where necessary).

Kindness (DJ set)

Little Boots (DJ Set)
Fresh from wowing the crowds on her American tour, synth-pop starlet Little Boots, aka Victoria Hesketh, will be serving up a sonic treat of Italo-disco and electro. The cosmic chica will be getting back to her roots with Girlcore, where she made her DJ debut.

Living in A Disco DJs
LIAD hosted many a party in and around Dalston before setting up camp in the intimate confines of Dreams’ basement (now-called Juicy) and have been sporadically unleashing “astro-electroid thumpers, smashing disco rumpers and 90s dance pumpers” ever since.

Lovers & Gamblers
When not partaking in their eponymous vices, this DJ/production duo provide the Midas touch to artists like Marina and The Diamonds and Primary 1, remixing their tracks with a hefty dose of disco and synths. Expect a sparkling set as they hook up with their fellow bandmate, Little Boots, to play everything from Steely Dan to Aeroplane.

Lovvers DJs

Magnets
Magnets perpetrator Alex Mac produces bleepy analogue dancefloor electronica using battered old synths and a constantly crashing laptop. Freeform machine melodies with loose 4/4 backbone make for open-minded future house.

Matty J & Ben Terry
Carrying Tirk Records’ soulboy torch around the globe, Matty J & Ben Terry cater for those who want to jack AND Fleetwood Mac. Matty also runs the globally renowned Pool Agency; hosts of Visions Video Bar at Land of Kings.

Nadia Ksaiba
Alongside Rory Phillips, Nadia set up and promoted the now-legendary East London rave Our Disco which, during its half decade run saw the likes of 2ManyDJs, Zongamin, Lindstrom and Erol Alkan grace the decks as guests. Expect a hot pot of New York disco, italo and early house alongside electro fare.

Night Angles
Night Angles arrived from the outer galaxies with a twisted dark disco remix for Samuel and The Dragon. On the decks, he brings equally sparse, chuggy grooves to the floor.

Patternity presents... A Tapestry Of Dalston

Rebel Dining Society

Ronojoy Dam
Specialising in youthful discontent with a pop sensibility, Ronojoy Dam spins like 90s indie pop jukebox roulette. Expect the Good Mixer gang, collegiate East Coasters and the Glasgow school.

Rory Phillips
Having spent the best part of a decade re-defining London nightlife alongside Erol Alkan at Trash and bringing mutant disco to the East End with Our Disco, Rory has built a solid reputation for parties that carve their own path and pack dancefloors. Continuing this tradition, his and Nadia Ksaiba’s SAY YES party showcases his diverse and ever evolving style covering the best in new music and hidden gems from the past.

Savage Beach
Savage Beach are not the Hawaiian-based drugs cops in the film of the same name, but DJs extraordinare and Say Yes newcomers. Snapping at the heels of the club night's residents with their electro-tinged beats, the pair will be opening up what's set to be another blistering hot Rave in A Cave.

Sexbeat
Sexbeat has become synonymous with cutting-edge club nights featuring bands that are so hot they'd practically sizzle if you touched them. Come listen to a concentrated slice of the music that gets them fired up.

Skip Theatre
All-girl trio SKIPTheatre host 'Land of the Sea Kings' at the Arcola Theatre. Meet Neptune and Salacia - the Greek gods of the sea - in an interactive underwater soiree. Expect synchronized swimming, sirens, mermaids and an area to create your own underwater couture. Soundtrack will be provided by Detours and Wedding Smashers DJs.

Simon A. Carr
Simon is honcho of Thisisnotanexit Records; a label run from a laptop in East London and not fit for any pigeonhole you’ll find. Taking inspiration from David Lynch and labels like Output, Mute and Factory, Simon’s TINAE recently celebrated with their first compilation: Manifesto 1.

Soft Rocks
3 quarters Brighton, 1 quarter Brooklyn, Soft Rocks have made the leap from record collectors, to editors du jour, to fully fledged producers. Whilst fabled for their weird and wonderful online mixes, in the club they go for the jugular, albeit in an unexpected, eclectic fashion.

Sound Of Rum
Sound of Rum formed in the summer of 2008 and have since been playing gigs all over the UK. They’ve been played by Radio 1’s Rob da Bank’s show and Huw Stephens and have been in session with Stephen Merchant on 6Music. They’re currently recording their debut LP for Sunday Best and running round the country on tour with Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip.

Speakers' Corner Quartet
Speakers Corner Quartet are relaying messages from the cosmos. The London-based ensemble started as a jam band in 2007 and, since then, new dimensions have emerged and will continue to emerge, as is the nature of living in this environment called Earth. SCQ look forward to the new frontier, whilst taking references from the past and enjoying the present.

Spectral Empire
Spectral Empire is Kyle Martin and George Thompson – two disco obsessives who have been recording in the darkness of their North London bunker over the past 12 months. Their influences are telling; from the weird horror-prog of Goblin and John Carpenter, to the Teutonic rhythm of Kraftwerk, via modern electronic pioneers such as Château Flight, Quiet Village and Zombi.

Spin Spin the Dogs (live)
In no way endorsing canine rotation, snarling indie rock upstarts SSTD cite The Stranglers and Happy Mondays as their influences.

Super Youth

Taktal
Taktal are a collective of fast-rising designers and visual artists. For Land of Kings they will be showcasing some of their interactive installations within the Dungeon of Discoveries exhibition. Ever played ping pong under UV lighting with touch-sensitive bats hooked-up to a sampler? Neither had we.

Tayo
Dynamic global DJ dynamo, Tayo, showcases his new concept at Land of Kings – Lean Left bringing a myriad mutations of 4/4 music in all its forms including funky, dubstep and techno.

The Horrors DJs
Psychedelic rockers and vinyl diggers The Horrors give a glimpse of their extensive record collections with a rare DJ appearance. Recent sets and mixtapes have been a mixture of Detroit Techno, Chicago House, Italo-Disco and Bollywood Funk.

Thomas Bullock (Rub N Tug / Map of Africa)
Wicked Crew – ARE Weapons – Rub N Tug – Map of Africa – Laughing Light of Plenty and Food of the Gods; Thomas’ recording projects are as wild and varied as his DJ sets. Bringing a punk aesthetic to the disco dancefloor, this one is bound to bring the roof down.

Transparent DJs
Starting out as a fanzine in 2005, Transparent realised there was a bigger bite of the pie for them out there and morphed into a club night and label. As for their DJ sets, think The XX, Late Of The Pier, Girls and Foals to get you started.

Wet Paint DJs
Formed by Absentee guitarist Babak Ganjei, Wet Paint in the live sense stand for loud, fast and unashamedly raw musical offerings. As DJs, they bring that same intensity to the turntables.

Yuck (live)
Enjoying a steady stream of ones-to-watch-for-2010 nods, London-based quintet Yuck comprise a multinational line-up featuring members from Hiroshima and New Jersey. Their sound? Loud, melodic pop for the new decade.
